Leaving for a little motorcycle trip down the coast this week. Eureka/Arcata here I come.

Learn about Prince Charles the Cookie Maker in yesterday's NY Times and why he's the hottest eco-celebrity since Al Gore. Also, I highly recommend listening to his 19 minute keynote address to the SLow Food Conference.

The definitive piece to date on why all of us should be concerned with geo-politics and the environment, read:"The Power of Green" By Thomas L Friedman, in the NY Times Magazine. Brilliant and comprehensive.

For those of you who missed Russ' Evening Magazine Feature covering our successful Bonneville NASCAR Land Speed Record. You can watch it here.

I just received word that next week, Tuesday, April 17th, at 9 PM, KIRO 7 Eyewitness News Profiles will air its feature on Russ and our American Challenge Team's latest land and water speed record doings. I may have a cameo and look for the Brilliant Roger Gallington and Autodesk's own Garin Gardiner too.

If you haven't yet taken the opportunity to visit my friend Gregg's website, Ribbon of Road, do. He's nearing the end of his 17,000+ mile bicycle journey through the Americas and will soon be in Tierra del Fuego. To Date, he's raised over $42,000 dollars for the American Diabetes Association. That's some superb fundraising for a guy without a cell phone who sleeps in a tent. See if you can help him break $50K.

Tuesday the 13th is the last day to turn in your Viaduct ballots. If you haven't already voted NO to both proposals, here is one last lyrical bit to inspire you to do so. From the most Excellent Real Change Newspaper, read the persuasive "Say Yes to No and No" by Adam Hyla and Timothy Harris.

If you haven't yet had enough, read another great piece in The Stranger.

gregg and brooks - Salar de Uyuni Fast six amigos high on salt middle of nowhere

My pal Gregg Bleakney has been traveling on his bicycle now for over a year and one-half. He began his odyssey in Alaska and now he's in Argentina. His 17,000+ mile epic will end sometime this summer in Tierra del Fuego - the southernmost point of the Americas. Read his brilliant, exuberant and entertaining travelogue, Ribbon of Road and learn what it's like to bicycle across the world's largest salt desert.

Hey, and while you're there, you can support the American Diabetes Association. Send your check directly to Ribbon of Road. I did, and it sure feels good buying some grub for a happy-go-lucky cyclist in the southern hemisphere and helping fund the discovery of solutions for diabetes.

For those of you interested in the the upcoming Viaduct vote (you should have received your ballot in the mail), Join the Seattle Times' Danny Westneat on a walking tour in which he illuminates the issues and the opportunities. Read "The Waterfront Deserves Better."

If you missed any of Danny's previous excellent viaduct discourse you can go here:
Westneat 1 / Westneat 2 / Westneat 3

If you wish to involve yourself more deeply in a true waterfront renaissance, pay a visit to the visionary and passionate folks of the People's Waterfront Coalition.

Vote NO to both propositions and you can send short-sighted and aesthetically impaired legislators back to the drawing board. Ultimately there are broader, more thoughtful solutions. See what King County Executive Ron Sims has to say. I like that he is thinking about how our lifestyles affect transportation as well as illuminating all of the little things which can be done to improve traffic. collectively, Sims' "little things" leave us with a cleaner environment and a less congested city.

Great special column in today's Seattle Times by US Rep. Jim McDermott, D-Seattle, who represents the 7th Congressional District of Washington state. To get involved in the campaign for the proposed U.S. Department of Peace, go to www.dopcampaign.org

Superb article on Ray Troll in this months WSU Magazine. Ray is most well known for his "Spawn 'Till You Die" T-shirts. He also happens to collaborate with my pal Brad Matsen and illustrated his book Planet Ocean. Enjoy the tour of Ray's Ketchican, to the soundtrack "your momma was a lobe-finned fish."
